What is the difference between lab-grown diamonds and earth formed diamonds?
The primary difference between lab-grown diamonds and earth formed diamonds are the methods in which they are created. Lab-grown diamonds have the same physical, chemical and optical characteristics as mined diamonds. Lab-grown diamonds are formed by simulating natural conditions of extreme heat and pressure or through a process known as chemical vapor deposition. Lab-grown diamonds are ethical, conflict-free and considerate of sustainable measures. Mined diamonds are extracted from the earth through open-pit mining, hard-rock mining, alluvial mining, and marine diamond mining; all of which leave damaging effects on the planet, often times devastating local ecosystems and human habitats. In order to find a 1.0-carat rough diamond, approximately 1,750 tons of earth has to be displaced.
New World Diamonds are created above the earth’s surface, we only use a fraction of the energy and natural resources used in traditional mining practices which leaves a much lower carbon footprint on our planet. Lab-grown diamonds are produced in a controlled environment under the supervision of highly-skilled scientists who ensure each diamond meets stringent quality measures.
It is stated in section § 23.12 of Guides for the Jewelry, Precious Metals, and Pewter Industries “a diamond is a mineral consisting essentially of pure carbon crystallized in the isometric system." The Guide goes on to say that they “no longer define a diamond by using the term natural because it is no longer accurate to define diamonds as natural when it is now possible to create products that have essentially the same optical, physical, and chemical properties as mined diamonds.
Are all New World diamonds certified?
Lab-grown diamonds are graded with the same standards as mined diamonds and carry certifications from various independent laboratories such as IGL and IGI. Each diamond is evaluated by its cut, clarity, color, and carat to determine how well it has been shaped into its final, flawless form. The laboratories we commonly use to certify our diamonds are International Gemological Laboratories (IGL) and the International Gemological Institute (IGI).
Why are diamonds from New World Diamonds less expensive than competitors in the market?
Our diamonds are grown in-house in our private laboratory. From rough diamonds to cut and polished ready-to-wear diamonds we own the entire supply chain. New World Diamonds Lifetime Warranty
New World Diamonds (NWD) is committed to and stands behind the quality of our products which includes lab-grown diamonds and finished jewelry.
If for any reason you aren’t completely satisfied with the goods, don’t worry, we offer free returns within 30 days of receipt for orders over $100.00. Orders that have been previously exchanged, re-sized, and custom pieces are not eligible for return and shall be considered a final sale.
New World Diamonds stands behind the craftsmanship of our jewelry and as a result offers a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects on all our fine jewelry.
All of our jewelry is manufactured using the best materials available in the world today. All New World Diamonds goods are inspected prior to shipping. If you deem an item has a manufacturing defect, you may return it to us for inspection. If we determine your merchandise is damaged due to a manufacturing defect, we will repair, replace, or substitute it without additional cost to you. If we determine that damage is not caused by a manufacturing defect and should charges apply, we will notify you prior to performing any work on your item. Replacement and repair times are dependent upon the severity of the damage and availability of a replacement.
New World Diamonds will pay for the costs of shipping and handling of all jewelry covered under our Lifetime Manufacturing Warranty. For repairs not covered under the lifetime warranty, we will send you a price for the repair and your approval prior to the work being performed.
Repair or service performed by a jeweler other than New World Diamonds will void the warranty.
Please note jewelry can be impacted by normal wear, activities, or distress. This is especially true for rings, since your hands are actively used on a daily basis. Our Lifetime Manufacturing Warranty does not cover damages caused by negligence, normal wear and tear, loss of gemstones, product loss, theft, improper care, accident, discoloration of precious metals caused by chemicals, or the natural breakdown of materials over an extended time and use. New World Diamond Lifetime Manufacturing Warranty only covers original and unaltered products. If a refund percentage or amount is agreed upon at any point that would then void future liability and warranty policies. Our Lifetime Manufacturing Warranty also does not cover damage or loss caused by a failure to obtain the repairs required to preserve the integrity of the jewelry.
Further to the above, here are a few specific examples of issues we would not consider manufacturing defects:
- The discoloration of precious metals caused by chemicals, make-up, immersion in pools and hot tubs, or bathing.
- Precious metals, and especially prongs, wear down over time and may require restoration work as part of normal wear.
- Prongs catching, wearing out, or bending over time due to everyday wear or normal damage, allowing a gemstone to fall out.
- The loss of a gemstone caused by damage from everyday wear or from other damage.
New World Diamonds is happy to offer repair and refurbishing of our jewelry which is assessed on a case by case basis. Charges may apply to some repairs but prior to making any repairs we will contact you for approval.
If your diamond does not meet a characteristics noted on the corresponding certificate NWD will provide you with a refund of the full purchase price; or replace the diamond with a diamond that meets or exceeds each of the characteristics warranted. Because of the quality of our diamonds NWD guarantees our diamonds will not fade, cloud, change color or lose their brilliance forever.

When will my order ship?
Ordering only takes a few seconds. Processing depends upon your selection. Most pieces will ship the next business day or two. It’s those custom or personal creations that take time to make, up to three weeks. Items labeled "Ships immediately" will ship within one business day. Once it’s through processing, your package ships and you’ll get a shipment notification email with a tracking number. Then, it’s on the way!
Custom creation order terms
At New World Diamonds, we pride ourselves on world-class craftsmanship and love working with customers to craft a unique piece of jewelry. We would be honored to work with you in bringing your vision to life, provided that the design is within our production capabilities, standards of craftsmanship and does not violate any copyrights.
Please note all custom orders are subject to a 20% cancellation fee with a maximum of $1000. A 20% fee for cancellation is applicable on custom grown diamonds and jewelry after 48 hours of the order being placed. Due to the nature of custom orders, we are unable to craft jewelry without the inclusion of diamonds and complete pieces (no settings.) Custom orders are not eligible for return and shall be considered a final sale.
All custom orders have a $1000.00 minimum purchase requirement. If you are a returning customer, we extend an appreciation for our continued relationship with a consideration of a custom order that may not meet the $1000.00 minimum requirement.
To start the process for your custom order, please contact one of our Consultants via chat, text, phone or email. Email is the best contact method if providing an image or drawing of your desired creation.
Once the inquiry is received, we will assist with design details and provide a complimentary price quote with no obligation to order. Price quotes are valid for one week. Upon approval, an email with a link to complete your purchase will be sent for full payment. Two business days after your order has processed, our jewelers will then commence production and craft your custom design. A drawing of your design can be sent to you for approval. Minor changes are free, major changes are subject to additional charges and can delay the shipping time frame.
Most custom orders are completed within 4 to 8 weeks. We will use our best efforts to accommodate an expedited schedule; however, unforeseen delays in production may occur. All delivery dates and times are estimates only.

What are your shipping rates and will my package be insured?

Returns & Exchanges
Not ecstatic about something! Wrong size? Need a larger diamond? Different color gold? Don’t worry, we offer free returns within 30 days of receipt for most orders over $100.00. Orders that have been previously exchanged, re-sized, and custom pieces are not eligible for return and shall be considered a final sale.
Is the size wrong? We offer one complimentary free resizing on most rings for 30 days after purchase. Charges may apply to resizing after the 30 days period. Please note our eternity rings and rings with inner patterns cannot be resized due to their design.
Please note that item(s) must include receipt, the certificate and be in their original condition and packaging. Please allow 48 to 72 hours upon receipt of your package for the processing. Jewelry must be shipped back in a outer shipping box, not a padded envelope. Custom orders are subject to a 20% cancellation fee with a maximum of $1000. A 20% fee for cancellation is applicable on custom grown diamonds and jewelry after 48 hours of the order being placed.
IGL certificates are complimentary and upon request unless otherwise stated. Please make your request during the checkout process or within 48 hours of ordering. Delays in shipping your order or charges for shipping separate may apply. If you request a certificate from another laboratory, there may be a non-refundable additional fee. A non-refundable fee also applies to an IGL appraisal. Please contact us for further information.
Our policy excludes coverage for loss of stones, product loss, or theft. However, the certificate we ship is not only great information about your item, it and your receipt may be useful when insuring your diamond with your insurance company. Check with your insurance provider.

Any diamond you purchase from us can be exchanged for credit or upgrade equivalent to the original purchase price for a new diamond or jewelry that is at least 50% greater value.
