What is the difference between Lab-Grown and Natural Diamonds? New World Diamonds

What is the difference between Lab-Grown and Natural Diamonds?

People believe there is a significant difference between real or natural diamonds and lab grown diamonds; however, these assumptions can be misleading. Many diamond buyers believe that lab-grown diamonds are fake diamonds; however, the truth is that lab-created diamonds are similar to natural diamonds in their physical properties, chemical makeup, and visual appearance. The only difference between mined diamonds versus lab-created diamonds is their origin. It is hard to differentiate between mined and lab-grown diamonds when you see them because they look real and have similar clarity grades. Lab-grown diamonds do not belong to cubic zirconia products. These diamonds are also synthetic, and people believe that the name implies they are not real diamonds; however, this is not true. Synthetic diamonds are unlike white sapphire, an alternative to diamonds and fake diamonds.

How are natural diamonds and lab-created diamonds formed?

The main difference between lab-created and natural diamonds is the process in which they are formed. Geologists say natural diamonds were formed one or two billion years ago. The process by which mined diamonds are formed is because of carbon dioxide buried 100 miles below the earth's surface. This carbon dioxide pressures the diamonds transported to the earth's surface due to volcanic eruptions. As a result, natural diamonds are mined from the earth's crust. On the other hand, the lab-created diamonds use two processes: chemical vapor deposition and high pressure, high-temperature process. In these processes, a small diamond seed is placed into carbon exposed to high heat and temperature from lab-grown diamonds.

Natural diamonds vs. lab-grown diamonds

Buy loose lab-created diamonds and take a diamond tester to know whether they are real diamonds. You will know that synthetic or lab-grown diamonds have passed the test, unlike white toppers or cubic zirconia, which won’t pass this test. When you are testing, it is important to weed out fake diamonds or stones. Lab grown diamond rings are made out of cutting-edge technology, which looks similar to natural diamonds and is similar in optical, physical, and chemical properties. The name synthetic is the reason why people are undervaluing lab-grown diamonds.

Lab diamonds are bright and shine just like natural diamonds. However, when you look at them, you cannot identify natural and lab-grown diamonds, and they’ll have minor differences. When these diamonds undergo polishing and cutting, it becomes difficult to distinguish the physical difference. Diamond simulants also look similar to diamonds; however, they are not like lab created diamonds since they differ in chemical properties.
